ARMINES is a non-profit making organization funded in 1967 and created in accordance with the French Act of 1901. The relationship of ARMINES with the engineering and management schools is governed by agreements, notably the Ecoles des Mines network under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry (Paris, Douai, Alès, Saint-Etienne, Nantes and Albi-Carmaux). ARMINES also brings together the laboratories of the Ecole Polytechnique, the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Techniques Avancées (ENSTA), the Ecole Navale and the Ecole des Ponts et Chaussées. ARMINES was the first partnership research structure created in France. In line with the nature of partnership research, the operational unit is the joint research centre managed jointly by ARMINES and its partner engineering schools where each provides personnel, investment and operating resources according to the volume of contractual activity. With a turnover of €35 million (2005), ARMINES is the leading French Research and Technology Organisation (RTO). CEP, Center fo Energy and Processes is a joint unit of Armines with Mines Paris Tech (also called ENSMP) is of specific importance, having in mind the issues of this century. Research conducted in this Department is varied in form and adapted to a variety of objectives, reflecting the diversity of the dissemination of R&D results in society. Research involves studies that are predominantly scientific as well as more technological activities or surveys of a more economic nature. Our DSM team is presently working on EE programs in Europe and in France in buildings, air conditioning and heat pumps (EIE programs) and in the energy services fields (EE certificates, EurowhiteCert, new service development, market mecanisms, Annex AIE Micro Demand Response and Energy Savings). At the EU level, ARMINES main activities are related to EPBD, ESD and EuP directives.
