The Centre for Sustainable BuildingThe building is equipped with a surface heating and cooling system with thermally activated building constructions. Each office room is equipped with a separately regulated heating/cooling circuit in the ceiling and in the floor slabs. In addition to these, a number of other control elements, sensors, energy-efficiency and user comfort systems have been or will be installed.
Hypothesis Testing in PEBBLE
With an annual energy consumption of 32 KWh/m2a, the building is a low-energy building with a wealth of control elements (some of which are installed for research purposes and are not found in regular buildings). This flexibility will permit evaluation of the importance of proper control decisions in further reducing energy requirements, helping draw conclusions on the relative importance of good initial design compared to effective operation. The building can be grid-connected to renewable-generated energy (this is sufficient for our purposes) to test the potential of transforming it to an EPB, and evaluate the implementation costs along with the payback period, if such modifications are performed.
